Unveiled at the very beginning of 2018, the Nike Air Vapormax Plus is an hybrid version of the popular Nike Air Vapormax. The pair combines elements from two sneakers in its catalog, namely the Air Max Plus upper with the sole of the latest Nike Air Vapormax released during the Air Max Day 2017. Nike launched, for the Air Max Day 2018 , an international competition "Nike On Air" inviting anonymous designers to imagine their own Air Max in connection with their hometown. Six models have been chosen by the jury and are about to be released. The Nike Air Vapormax Plus "Paris Works in Progress" is one of the designs selected by Nike. The pair, designed by Lou Matheron, pays tribute to the city of Paris.
This new ode to the capital boasts an original design. It is inspired by the many sites scattered throughout the City of Light and which metamorphose it little by little to create the Paris of tomorrow: Le Grand Paris. To design the sneaker, the Parisian photographer specifically relied on clichés she herself made of the new courthouse in Paris under construction (GPS coordinates appeared on the heel of the sneakers). She has transposed many visual elements of these sites on the Nike Air Vapormax Plus. The futuristic silhouette is thus offered in a white and gray color code reminiscent of concrete. The lateral Swoosh is yellow to remind the uniforms of the workers as well as the cranes.
For the first time on this model, Swoosh can be changed in two other gray and orange shades thanks to the presence of a miniature fixing nut. A mini screwdriver is supplied with the pair. The graphic stripes on the insoles remind the visual identity of construction sites. Another originality, a gray strap surrounds the entire pair as a safety rope. You can choose to use it or not, the model is a slip-on and the foot is very well maintained without the strap.
Although revisited, the Nike Air Vapormax Plus retains the attributes that have forged its reputation. The sneaker is still showing off in a futuristic version with its Vapormax sole featuring the most advanced Air Max technology ever designed. The sneaker design is also made with bluish highlights. Lou Matheron opted for a construction that takes the form of a neoprene upper to reinforce the avant-garde look of the pair. The main color code, gray and white, also contributes to it as well as graphic stripes on the toebox that reflect the legacy of the Air Max Plus. The logo "Vapormax" is applied on the heel.
